- Beef eats frozen dairy treats, for humans
(1985) Written, directed, orchestrated by Akira Kurosawa, from the play King Lear by William Shakespeare .. a swaying tear between family, honor & power in a culture of precise traditions.. and the chaos that ensues between, when the title is passed from an aging warlord by his sons, advisors & those seeking revenge.
Tatsuya Nakadai ignites with a physical performance that reaches to the far side of death and back as Lord Hidetora Ichimonji .. who only in the presence of death and betrayal, becomes haunted with the realization to the absolute terrible mistake of a life he has made for himself, in the pursuit to gain a misplaced honor, through brutally taken power by the means of war and murder.
Gorgeously depicted in it’s photography of the land, it’s artifacts and told by way of symbolism and parables of wisdom. unconventional color pallets and amazing patterns make for a unique visual journey as well. could be the most incredible score my ears have taken in.. like all Kurosawa films, it’s generously editing with impeccable rhythm.
the horrifying things that happen when men waste many other men’s lives as pawns in wars of ideals, in their fear, misunderstanding (misinformation) and desperation.
are we all just a product of our specific time and place?
thanks be to Eddie for pointing out this amazing REAL commercial, for an ACTUAL lawyer in Austin. directed by Bob Ray
Adam Reposa: Lawyer, Patriot, Champion
(1954) written & directed by Akira Kurosawa .. unlike anything anyone can ever see again, honestly no one has ever made a film like this before or after.. and like every Kurosawa film I’ve seen, it’s lined with an honorable respect for the human condition. such monumental thematic rhythm, with such honest well done characters, and so. much. wisdom. using the sun, fire & especially rain as his greatest asset and ally, to depict a newly formed band of warriors standing against a common purpose: protect the weak from the tyranny of bullying thieves, with no reward other than the chance of an honorable death.
